Sinai University Faculty of Engineering Achieves Fifth Place in the Innovative Bridge Competition (IBC 2026)

Under the generous patronage of Prof. Dr. Gehan Fekry, President of Sinai University; Prof. Dr. Abdelhamid Abdo, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs at the Arish Campus; Prof. Dr. Mohamed Bassiouni, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; and Prof. Dr. Ashraf Amin El-Tarhy, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, the Faculty of Engineering at Sinai University has added another remarkable achievement to its academic record.
A team of Civil Engineering students secured fifth place in the Innovative Bridge Competition (IBC 2026), hosted by the Faculty of Engineering at Shoubra, Benha University, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. The competition brought together distinguished engineering faculties from universities across Egypt.
The achievement was accomplished through the design and construction of an innovative Truss Bridge model based on a triangular truss system, one of the most efficient structural configurations for load distribution and stability. The team focused on achieving an optimal strength-to-weight ratio while enhancing the bridge’s rigidity through the use of diagonal members and gusset plates, ensuring efficient stress distribution and structural stability throughout the testing process.
The student team consisted of Ibrahim Mostafa Ahmed Abdel Fattah and Ahmed Essam Othman Nabawy. The team was supervised and accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sayed Kotb, Head of the Civil Engineering Department and Dr. Mohamed Said Gadou, Lecturer, Civil Engineering Department.
The Faculty of Engineering extends its sincere appreciation to Prof. Dr. Gehan Fekry, President of Sinai University and Prof. Dr. Abdelhamid Abdo, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs at the Arish Campus for her continuous support of academic excellence and her commitment to encouraging student participation in scientific competitions. The Faculty also expresses its gratitude to Prof. Dr. Mohamed Bassiouni, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Prof. Dr. Ashraf Amin El-Tarhy, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, for their unwavering efforts to provide a stimulating environment that fosters creativity and innovation, preparing graduates capable of competing successfully at the national and international levels.
This accomplishment reflects Sinai University’s ongoing commitment to promoting applied education, encouraging students to participate in scientific competitions, and bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical application, thereby strengthening the University’s position among Egypt’s leading higher education institutions.
