  • A workshop titled “Research Projects Presented by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology of Egypt and How to Write Research Proposals” was held on March 3–4, 2024, at the university branches in Arish and Qantara.
  • A workshop titled “Managing Innovation in Academia” presented by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) was held on Tuesday, 26/11/2024.
  • A workshop titled “Scientific Writing” presented by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) was held on Wednesday, 27/11/2024.
  • A workshop titled “Funding Opportunities: Projects and Grants” was presented by the Center for Scientific Research and Sustainable Development on 9/12/2024.
  • A workshop titled “Egyptian-Spanish Technological Cooperation Program – Call No. 9: Science, Technology, and Innovation Funding Authority (STDF) in collaboration with the Industrial Technology Development Center of Spain (CDTI)” was presented by the Center for Scientific Research and Sustainable Development on February 24, 2025.

I- Pharmaceutical Development Unit

Unit Objectives
  1. Conduct advanced research to develop new drugs and improve existing pharmaceutical formulations.
  2. Provide scientific and pharmaceutical consultations to companies and research institutions in drug development.
  3. Analyze and evaluate drugs for efficacy and safety before market release.
  4. Establish research partnerships with universities and scientific centers to drive innovation in the pharmaceutical industry.
  5. Offer training courses and workshops for researchers and pharmacists on the latest drug development techniques.
  6. Apply for funding to support research projects focused on drug and treatment development.
  7. Enhance drug delivery methods to improve efficacy and minimize side effects.
  8. Adhere to international standards to ensure the quality of developed drugs and their approval by regulatory health authorities.
Available Services
  • Freeze-drying of solid or liquid products in ampoules, vials or dishes.
  • Concentration of solutions, preparation of distillates and extracts, and solvent purification.
  • Measuring absorbance or transmittance of samples across the ultraviolet (UV) and visible (Vis) regions of the electromagnetic spectrum (approximately 200-800 nm).
  • Measuring particle size, zeta potential, and molecular weight of nanoparticles, colloids, and macromolecules in suspension.
    • Particle size range: 0.3 nm to 5 μm
    • Zeta potential measurement range: 3.8 nm to 100 μm
  • Determining the rate at which a drug dissolves in a given medium.
  • Measuring the time required for tablets or capsules to break down into smaller particles under controlled conditions.
  • Assessing the mechanical strength of tablets by evaluating their resistance to abrasion and breakage during handling, packaging, and transportation.
  • Measuring viscosity of Newtonian and Non-Newtonian materials in:
    • Controlled shear rate (CSR)
    • Controlled shear stress (CSS) modes.
  • Availability of Spray coating for tablets.
  • Availability of Lab scale high shear mixer granulator.

 

II- Analytical Unit (Chromatographic Separation Unit)

Unit Objectives
  1. Properly operate chromatography separation devices correctly following standard laboratory procedures.
  2. Conducting chromatographic experiments to separate and analyze components in various samples.
  3. Interpret chromatographic results by analyzing chromatograms.
  4. Evaluate the efficiency of different separation methods and determine the most suitable approach for each sample type.
Available Services
  • Separation and quantitation of compound mixtures using a binary gradient solvent delivery system equipped with:
    • Autosampler
    • Column thermostat compartment.
    • Detectors:
      • Variable wavelength UV detector
      • Photodiode array detector
      • Fluorescence detector
  • Measuring the pH (acidity or alkalinity) of a liquid or semi-solid substance.

 

III- Molecular Biology Unit

Unit Objectives
  1. Conduct research in molecular biology to advance scientific knowledge and applications.
  2. Provide consulting services in various aspects of molecular biology.
  3. Organize training courses for professionals and students interested in molecular biology.
  4. Applying for funding for research projects in molecular biology.
  5. Perform molecular biology analyses within the unit.
Available Services
  • Availability of a digital imaging system used for capturing and analyzing chemiluminescent, fluorescent, and colorimetric signals in gels and blots
  • Nucleic Acid & Protein Analysis:
    • Nucleic acid quantification (DNA, RNA) and purity assessment.
    • Protein concentration measurement and quality control in sample preparation.
  • Cell pelleting, protein precipitation, nucleic acid purification, and other standard laboratory procedures requiring centrifugation.
  • Amplify DNA sequences, for medical and clinical diagnostic applications.
  • Capability to conduct kinetic studies for observing and analyzing reaction rates.
  • Provide a controlled and stable environment for the growth and maintenance of microbiological cultures, cell cultures, and other biological samples using incubators.
  • Availability of Microprocessor-controlled heating block with heater technology which can be applied in:
    • Melting and boiling point determination.
    • Enzyme reactions
    • Incubation and activation of cultures
    • Immunoassays
    • DNA denaturation
    • Blood-urea-nitrogen determinations
  • Detecting and quantifying antigens, antibodies, or proteins in clinical and research settings.
  • Nucleic Acid Quantification: Measuring DNA, RNA concentrations, or purity through absorbance at specific wavelengths.
  • Cell-Based Assays: Monitoring cell growth, cytotoxicity, or viability using colorimetric assays like MTT or XTT.
  • Protein Quantification: Measuring protein concentrations using assays such as Bradford or BCA
  • Mix, agitate, or stir samples in a controlled, consistent manner.

 

IV- Scientific Equipment Unit

Sinai University has established a central laboratory for scientific research, which is equipped with a distinguished set of high-quality scientific equipment, which faculty members and teaching assistants can benefit from in conducting their various scientific research.

Rules Regulating Applications

  • Applicants must be faculty members or researchers affiliated with Sinai University.
  • The project contributes to increasing international cooperation with companies and external institutions.
  • Proposals must align with the university’s strategic research areas (2020-2025).
  • The principal investigator provides a commitment to implement the research project.
  • The research proposal is reviewed and approved by the center.

  • Developing the university’s scientific research strategy.
  • Contributing to providing appropriate funding to encourage scientific research (Instruments, establishing a center of excellence, disbursing scientific publishing rewards, scientific publishing support, and conference attendance support, etc.).
  • Forming research clusters for joint research cooperation and producing multiple, overlapping and interdisciplinary research.
  • Establishing a bank for scientific instruments at Sinai University.
  • Encouraging researchers and innovators and linking them with specialized companies with the aim of transferring technology and transforming their innovations into economic products.
