Editing the News so that it is Ready for Broadcast on Radio or Television

Dr. Fatima Al-Bar, a radio presenter and military correspondent for Egyptian Radio, lectured at the Faculty of Mass Communication at Sinai University, Kantara Branch, on Saturday, 13 April, within the framework of “The News on Radio and Television Course.” The lecture revolved around editing the news to be ready for broadcasting on radio or television and explained the differences between radio and television news.

Al-Barr also discussed digital news and explained the impact of modern technology on news and even the entire news process. She also addressed the most prominent rules of writing radio news, the task of the news editor in the current era, and the necessity of raising the sense of security among media professionals to select news that enhances the nation.

Al-Barr mentioned some principles that many international radio stations follow, such as avoiding broadcasting crime news unless it is of national importance and avoiding broadcasting news that creates chaos and panic.

Al-Barr focused on preparing and writing the radio bulletin and the rules that should be followed, such as “using direct phrases and sentences, avoiding ambiguity or difficult terms, etc.” She gave many vivid examples that she was exposed to during her professional career to bring the information closer to the students.

Al-Barr’s next visit to the university is scheduled to occur again next Monday, April 22nd. For practical application with students on preparing the bulletin.
